After months of gathering input from dedicated educators across Aotearoa New Zealand, Keri, Faye and Jay from Edgewater College have launched Empower KEA (Kaiako for Equity in Aotearoa). This new community provides a supportive network for teachers working in or with High Equity Index Schools (HEIS).

Empower KEA has created a Google Drive of HEIS-focused resources, a Discord server for real-time discussions, and an official Google Site at empowerkea.org.nz. These platforms aim to serve as safe, collaborative spaces where kaiako can freely exchange teaching strategies, share experiences, and offer mutual support. If you’d like to join, please complete the Google Form here: https://sites.google.com/empowerkea.org.nz/empowerkea/join?authuser=0

The founders would like to acknowledge everyone who contributed through the original survey—your insights helped shape this valuable community initiative. Your ongoing participation will ensure we continue to uplift each other in our shared mission for equity in education. Bay Science would like to acknowledge Keri Tan Garlick, Faye Booker and Jayatheeswaran (Jay) Vijayakumar for taking the initiative to form this group.
