Sunday 23rd November - 10am - 3pm. Kai provided

Kai Rotorua are inviting the community to their next Food Forest Planting Day, a hands-on wānanga led by Food Forest Project Manager Cath. This day is all about getting your hands in the soil, learning by doing, and strengthening the collective knowledge that helps our local food forests thrive.

Across the day you’ll help establish a planting installation, explore the principles of syntropic agroforestry and permaculture, and learn how these approaches are being woven into the Kai Rotorua kaupapa. Whether you're brand new or have joined previous planting days, there’s always something fresh to discover.

Expect a grounded, down-to-earth experience where we plant together, share knowledge, build confidence in plant ID, and connect with others who care about kai sovereignty and local ecosystems. Kai will be provided to keep everyone nourished along the way.

Kai Rotorua were recently named finalists in the Not for Profit category at the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards. A great acknowledgement of the mahi and aroha that goes into their kaupapa.

Rangatahi have recently been active in their māra too. Students from Rotorua Boys’ High School and John Paul College helped prepare the whenua, identify plants, sow seeds, and support kūmara planting. A real example of hapori and māra mahi coming together.
