Curious about the dynamic geology right in your backyard? Beneath the Waves are hosting an interactive afternoon in Whakatāne dedicated to local volcanoes.

This free event gives rangatahi, kaiako, and whānau a chance to put their geological questions to real volcanologists. Learn about the science behind Whakaari/White Island and Tūhua/Mayor Island while exploring hands-on activities, books, and educational displays.

Beneath the Waves are hosting a free interactive event at Whakatāne Library on Friday 14 August 2026 to connect local whānau with volcanologists studying Whakaari and Tūhua.
