The Aotearoa Educator’s Collective (AEC) is hosting a Substack Live session to unpack the draft science curriculum. This kōrero brings together a panel of researchers, educators, and commentators whose work spans science education, curriculum design, and equity in schooling.

Panel Presenters
Professor Sara Tolbert
Sara Tolbert (Tangata Tiriti) is an internationally recognised scholar in science and environmental education, with a focus on equity, community, and justice-centred pedagogy. A former science and ESOL teacher, she has worked in multilingual and multicultural settings across Aotearoa, Australia, the United States, and Latin America. Her research explores how science education can foster critical hope, sustainability, and meaningful engagement in the Anthropocene.
Madeleine Collins
Madeleine Collins is an experienced science educator currently working at Green Bay High School in Auckland. In 2023 she was awarded the Prime Minister’s Science Teacher Prize (Te Puiaki Kaiwhakaako Pūtaiao) in 2023.
Associate Professor Chris Eames
Chris Eames is an educator and researcher specialising in environmental, sustainability, and science education. He supports both pre-service and in-service teachers and has contributed to national and international projects, including co-authoring components of PISA’s Agency in the Anthropocene. His work focuses on how young people can participate in shaping sustainable, community-centred futures.
Claire Coleman (MC)
Claire Coleman is an educator, facilitator, and communicator who hosts online conversations about contemporary issues in Aotearoa’s education landscape. She is known for creating spaces where teachers, researchers, and community members can discuss big questions, share diverse perspectives, and unpack complex ideas with clarity and respect. Claire regularly leads live panel discussions.
