A PhD student from the University of Canterbury, Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha, is looking for a few more participants for her research, and we said we would share this with our Bay Science whānau.

Sajeevi Ama Ganegoda is exploring how women secondary science and mathematics teachers who take an equity focused approach enact leadership in their departments, schools, and communities, and how they see themselves as leaders in that work.

The study centres on the lived experiences of women who are actively working to promote fairness, inclusion, and social justice in maths and science education across Aotearoa.

What is involved? Two interviews of around 45 to 60 minutes each, either online or face to face. With permission, interviews are audio recorded, and you will have the opportunity to review your transcript. The project has ethics approval through the University of Canterbury.

If you are a woman teaching secondary science or mathematics and you lead with an equity lens, whether that leadership is formal or informal, this kaupapa might be right up your alley.
