EarthFest 2026 is Aotearoa’s biggest and only family friendly event dedicated entirely to the world of Earth Sciences. Learn about volcanoes, earthquakes, energy, minerals, fossils, rocks and all other things about the active and dynamic planet we live on and the scientists who study and explain it to us.

EarthFest includes interacting and engaging displays from a wide range of organisations and experts in their fields. In 2026 EarthFest is being held at Toi Ohomai in Rotorua from 29 – 30 Nov. and in its fourth year is going to be bigger and better than ever, thanks to the support of Toi Ohomai and the Geoscience Society of New Zealand.

This free event will provide an opportunity for members of the public—especially tamariki and rangatahi (children and young people)—to engage with a variety of Earth Science concepts and disciplines, to foster interest and inspire future careers.

To find out more or to join our mailing list for regular updates email earthfest@gsnz.org.nz and make sure you visit our website. We would love to hear from you!

Ngā mihi nui to Jim Critchley, our Bay of Plenty ESSENZ representative for sharing this information with us.
