Forest & Bird Eastern Bay of Plenty have opened applications for their Marine Studies Scholarship, which provides up to $2,000 for a student from the Eastern Bay beginning a marine biology degree or diploma at a New Zealand university or polytech in 2026.

The scholarship is designed to support a local rangatahi with a genuine interest in marine science. We’re sharing it here in case kaiako have a student or whānau member who might be a good fit.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be a New Zealand citizen

  • Must live in Whakatāne (including Murupara), Kawerau, or Ōpōtiki Districts

  • Must be planning to start a marine biology–related programme next year

Applications close: Monday 8 December

To request an application form, email: easternbayofplenty.branch@forestandbird.org.nz

Ngā mihi to the Eastern Bay of Plenty Forest & Bird team — we came across this announcement on their Facebook page and are resharing it so kaiako in our region can pass the opportunity on to their learners.
