Auckland is set to become the global hub for young scientific minds in July 2027 as it hosts the 40th International Young Physicists’ Tournament (IYPT). Known as the "World Cup of Physics," this event brings together 200 of the brightest students from over 36 countries for a series of intense, high-stakes "Physics Fights."

To mark this 40th anniversary, the New Zealand Young Physicists’ Trust is looking for a local student to design the official logo. This is a unique opportunity for Art and Design students to see their work used on international websites, event signage, and promotional material across the globe.

More about the FUSION Design Competition

This project represents "Art supporting Science." It is an opportunity for rangatahi to engage with a major international event happening in their own backyard. Beyond the global exposure, the winner will receive an electronic drawing tablet and a valuable mentorship day with the award-winning Onfire design agency to see how professional branding works in the real world.

Five finalists will be selected by 19 June 2026 and will participate in a short online interview to discuss their creative process before the final winner is announced on 24 June.
