The Ministry of Education has published new information outlining how schools and kura can take part in in-class trialling of the draft Years 0–10 learning areas (NZC) and wāhanga ako (TMoA) during Term 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Education has published new information outlining how schools and kura can take part in in-class trialling of the draft curriculum during Term 1, 2026.


Registrations for participation are now open, with responses due by Monday 9 February 2026 and confirmation of places by Monday 16 February.




What the trialling involves

The draft learning areas for the New Zealand Curriculum that will be trialled are: Years 0-10 Science, Social Sciences, Health, The Arts, Learning Languages, and Technology.


The draft wāhanga ako for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa that will be trialled are: Tau 0-10 Pūtaiao,Te Ao Māori, Waiora, Toi Ihiihi, Hāngarau, Ngā Reo, and Te Reo Pākeha.


Schools and kura across Years | Tau 0–10 are invited to work with the draft content in real classroom settings between Monday 2 March and Thursday 2 April 2026.


All participants will be asked to attend a half-day onboarding session during the week of 23–27 February 2026. The session will:

  • provide detailed information about the trialling process and respond to questions

  • introduce the support teams and available resources

  • offer an opportunity to connect with other participating schools and kura

Facilitators will work alongside teachers and kaiako during the onboarding session to offer planning guidance and any additional assistance needed ahead of the in-class trial period.


Schools and kura across Years | Tau 0–10 are invited to work with the draft content in real classroom settings between Monday 2 March and Thursday 2 April 2026.

Participating teachers and kaiako will have access to:


  • Teacher-only/curriculum day materials (late January–early February)

  • Online presentations unpacking the draft learning areas and wāhanga ako

  • Facilitator support during the trial period

  • Post-trial feedback sessions in April 2026
