Coming this Saturday 25 October 2025

Kai Rotorua invites everyone to a hands-on Food Forest Planting Day this Labour Weekend, a relaxed day of learning, growing, and connecting through values that restore balance between people and papatūānuku.

Together you will explore:

  • How the Food Forest embodies the kaupapa of Kai Rotorua, reconnecting with whenua, whānau, and kai sovereignty

  • The principles behind Syntropic Agroforestry and permaculture that shape its design

  • The plants and layers within the Food Forest, and how you can bring these ideas home

The Kai Rotorua Food Forest is a living example of how community, culture, and ecology can thrive together. It is designed to nourish both people and the land. Participants will help install new 20 metre tree lines while sharing knowledge, kai, and kōrero in a supportive space.

Meet The Facilitators

Cath Goodrick – From Rotorua, Cath runs Goodrick Landscaping and serves as Garden Manager at Kai Rotorua. She and Kev Hosking travelled to Brazil to study Food Forest design and culture.

Kev Hosking – From Taranaki, Kev specialises in Syntropic Agroforestry and has developed his own thriving food forest, drawing on insights from global mentorships and hands-on experience.
