Australasia's Largest Urban Wetland Reserve

Kopurererua Valley Reserve is one of Tauranga’s most spectacular hidden gems. As the largest urban wetland reserve in Australasia, it’s an ecological and historical taonga sitting right in the heart of the city. This guided walk, hosted by Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise, is a rare chance to explore the valley alongside some of Tauranga’s experts in ecology, history and environmental restoration.
This easy-access event offers a family-friendly opportunity to deepen your understanding of local wildlife, ecosystems, and cultural significance. The guided section includes commentary along the way, highlighting the unique features that make Kopurererua such an important part of Tauranga’s landscape.
Event Details
When: Sunday 23 November, 1 pm–4 pm
Where: Tom Muir Drive / Watling Street, Tauranga
Walking time: Approximately 50 minutes each way, plus commentary
Cost: Free (donations on the day support native tree planting in the valley)

What to bring
Sturdy shoes for unpaved tracks, clothing suited to the weather, water, snacks, walking poles if needed, and any personal medication.

f the weather is poor or the valley is flooded, the walk will be postponed to 30 November. Please check your email on the morning of 23 November for updates.
Capacity
The walk is limited to 50 people. A waiting list is available.
