Manawahe Eco Trust offers fun, hands-on, curriculum-aligned environmental education in the native bush of the Manawahe Hills, where learning happens in the ngahere, not just the classroom.

Schools can choose from flexible modules exploring native birds, forest ecology, biodiversity, pest impacts, and how land and water are connected - all grounded in real conservation work.

A standout feature of the programme is access to an active kōkako conservation area, protecting a relic kōkako population that has never been lost from these hills, giving students the chance to engage directly with ongoing conservation mahi rather than learning about it in theory.

Programmes include time at the historic Manawahe School site, native bush walks, interactive games, and hands-on activities, and can be delivered as education days or extended into on-site camps that combine learning, teamwork, and immersive time in the ngahere.
