NZASE Releases 2026 NCEA Level 1 Science Derived Grade Exams

The New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE) has officially opened access to the derived grade assessment materials for 2026. These resources are vital for ensuring our rangatahi have fair pathways to achievement if unexpected events disrupt their end of year external assessments.

These exams specifically cover the newer Level 1 Science standards, providing a way for kaiako to gauge student progress and collect evidence for derived grades.


Accessing your NCEA Level 1 Science exams

The following details apply to the current release:


  • Standards Covered: Specifically 91922 and 91923 for the 2026 cycle.

  • Cost for Members: Free of charge for all NZASE member schools.

  • Cost for Non-Members: $50 for both exam papers.

  • Eligibility: Membership is free for primary schools, intermediate schools, and student teachers.

  • Distribution: Digital access is granted to one designated teacher per school to manage internal distribution.
