Looking for an inspiring, hands-on afternoon of science and digital innovation for your whānau or students at Nerdfest 2026? Returning to Kirikiriroa Hamilton for its third consecutive year, this free, all-ages technology showcase at the University of Waikato brings together robotics, artificial intelligence, gaming, and interactive STEM exhibits under one roof.

Nerdfest 2026 free STEM and robotics technology showcase at the University of Waikato on Bay Science.

What to Expect at Nerdfest 2026

Hosted inside Te Āhurutanga (The Pā) at the University of Waikato's Hamilton campus, Nerdfest 2026 is designed for everyone—from curious tamariki and rangatahi to teachers and seasoned "techsperts." Running after school on Friday afternoon, it is an easy trip over the Kaimai Range or down the expressway for schools and families wanting to see cutting-edge science and technology in action.

Attendees can get hands-on with:

  • AI and Robotics: Interactive demonstrations showing how autonomous systems and artificial intelligence are shaping our world.

  • Cyber Security & Programming: Coding challenges and digital security activities for budding computer scientists.

  • Gaming & LEGOZones: Creative engineering and gaming stations for all ages.

  • Halloween Spot Prizes: Because it falls on the eve of Halloween, attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their best costume for a chance to win spot prizes on the day (plus early-bird registration prizes!).
