The Ministry of Education has confirmed the release schedule for the final Years 0 to 10 New Zealand curriculum documents, including science. This timeline outlines when schools and kura will receive the materials ahead of the 2027 rollout.

The consultation phase drew nearly 3,900 submissions. The Ministry noted that early feedback highlighted concerns around the pace of change. In response, the Minister of Education extended the implementation timeframe for the Years 0 to 8 curriculum.

The updated documents will be released in stages. They will initially be published in PDF format, with full HTML webpages rolling out later in the year:

  • 12 August 2026: Science and Social Sciences released.

  • 26 August 2026: Pūtaiao and Pūmanawa Tangata released.

  • 9 September 2026: All other content for Years 0 to 10 published.

Alongside the new documents, the Ministry will publish reports summarising the feedback they received and explaining how they responded to it.

A range of support materials will also be released at the same time as the curriculum. These include teaching resources, practical classroom materials, assessment support, and professional learning and development options.

For secondary schools, the final Years 11 to 13 curriculum will be published later this year. This senior content will be progressively implemented from 2028 to 2030 to give schools time to plan for the upcoming changes.

Bay Science has included the Tāhūrangi announcement into our 'super timeline', which aims to track all dates.
