Nominations for the Peter Spratt Medal, a science educator award which includes lifetime membership to the New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE), is now open for 2025. This year, the award will be presented by NZASE executive at SCICON25 in July.

Peter Spratt was a visionary in New Zealand science education. A passionate geology teacher and curriculum developer, Peter dedicated his career to supporting science teachers and building national networks. As Executive Officer of NZASE until his sudden passing in 2007, he helped launch major initiatives like the NZASE Certificate in Science, the STANZ network for technicians, and the Teacher Fellowship Scheme through the Royal Society Te Apārangi. His legacy lives on through countless resources, relationships, and reforms that continue to shape science education today. The Peter Spratt Medal, awarded biennially at SciCon, honours those who, like Peter, have made an enduring grassroots contribution to science education in Aotearoa.
NZASE has an article about Peter Spratt here, as well as a page about the award on the NZASE website.
