Recycling forms the final tier of the 5 R's waste hierarchy: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle. While standard kerbside collections handle general household items, many everyday products still end up in landfill because council systems cannot process them.
Envirohub Bay of Plenty provides a dedicated community hub to solve this issue. By gathering specialised items directly, they recover valuable resources and keep waste out of local landfills.
Envirohub can collect the following the recycling:
Plastic & Metal Caps: Plastic lids, aluminium pull tabs, wine bottle lids, beer bottle lids, and steel jar lids.
Coffee Pods & Food Wrap: Nespresso pods, Nescafé Dolce Gusto pods, and Glad food storage products like sandwich bags and cling wrap.
E-Waste & Batteries: Printer and toner cartridges, household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 6V, 9V, button cells), keyboards, and mice (in partnership with Econox).
Cables & Technology: Laptops and devices under 10 years old with chargers (refurbished via Recycle a Device), mobile phones (partnering with Re, supporting Sustainable Coastlines), and electrical wiring (stripped by A&J Demolition).
Personal Care & Eyewear: Colgate oral care items, Solid brand glass toothpaste jars, VapeCycle products, and prescription or reading glasses (via Lions Foundation Recycle for Sight).
Currency: Foreign notes, coins, and discontinued NZ currency (supporting Lions Foundation Heads up for Kids).
How to Access Specialised Recycling in Tauranga
Drop-off Location: Envirohub, 31B Glasgow Street, Tauranga.
Operating Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00am to 2:00pm.
