Some general reminders and tips when working with the new Level 1 materials in 2025
If you have any questions or feedback about NCEA, including the new NCEA Level 1 standards, please send these directly to ncea.review@education.govt.nz Messages to the above email address are collated and sorted so that the ministry/NZQA can identify where uncertainties might be - this will allow them to find ways to better inform kaiako.
If you have moderation reports which are unclear you can also query these through the Principal's Nominee - they will liaise with one of NZQA's school relationship managers.
NZQA also has a list of more specific email addresses and other resources here which includes specific forms for ‘Clarification of a standard’ and for “Querying a moderation report”.
Hopefully, all of the channels above will provide MoE and NZQA some valuable, specific and detailed written feedback so that they can address any issues in the new materials.
Update 14/03/2025: Currently, there is no explicit requirement in CB1.2 to have equations in a supplementary resource sheet. However, as per EN1 "Demonstrate understanding of chemical reactions in context involves describing the reactants and products for a range of chemical reaction types using equations, with reference to conservation of mass" there may be a point of tension as to whether students have or have not demonstrated understanding if they have simply copied the reactants from an equation provided within the task. The latest National Moderators report suggests "Supporting information, such as equations, should be provided to students as a separate resource"
