This article provides information about a science-related experience to support school planning.

Science in a Van delivers high-energy, live science shows directly to schools across Aotearoa, making it easy for teachers to give students memorable, concept-rich science experiences without leaving the school grounds.

Since 2011, Science in a Van has been touring schools with engaging performances that blend hands-on experiments, storytelling, humour, and dramatic demonstrations. The format is simple: they come to you, set everything up, run the show, and pack down — no buses, no equipment, no prep required.

All you need is a school hall or large learning space. Science in a Van takes care of the rest.

Science in a Van live science shows in schools, featuring interactive demonstrations from shows including Move It!, The Wonderful World of Bubbles, What’s the Matter?, Billy Goats Gruff, and The Science of Sound.

     The Shows

  • The Wonderful World of Bubbles (Years 0–4)

Explore materials, mixtures, and reactions through giant bubbles and playful experimentation.

  • What’s the Matter? (Years 4–8) An energetic look at solids, liquids, and gases that helps students really grasp states of matter.

  • Billy Goats Gruff: A Tale of Competing Forces (Years 0–3) Classic storytelling meets science, focusing on pushes, pulls, and friction.

  • Move It! Exploring the Laws of Motion (Years 3/4–8) A fast-paced journey through Newton’s Laws, complete with dramatic demonstrations.

  • The Science of Sound (Years 4–8) Investigate vibrations, pitch, and sound waves — including a moment students won’t forget.

  • Full Force! (New for 2026) A brand-new whole-school show celebrating 15 years of Science in a Van, designed for large audiences.

Detailed descriptions for each show are available on the Science in a Van website.
