If you live in Kawerau, Te Teko, or Edgecumbe, the Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council wants to help you tackle one of our region’s most persistent pest plants — Woolly Nightshade (Solanum mauritianum).

Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council team are keen to help you remove Woolly Nightshade.

This invasive shrub spreads quickly and competes with native species, creating dense stands that affect both biodiversity and human health. That’s why Toi Moana is running a community initiative to help property owners identify, remove, and control Woolly Nightshade in the Bay of Plenty safely and effectively.

When you get in touch, Council staff will arrange a time to visit and provide you with a free control kit, which includes:

  • A fact sheet so you don’t forget what was covered during the visit.

  • A hands-on demonstration at a local infestation.

  • A folding saw to cut down mature plants.

  • A herbicide shell to safely treat the roots — preventing regrowth.

If you have Woolly Nightshade on your property, contact Toi Moana to arrange your kit and guidance.
