Ngā mihi nui ki a Benny for organising and sharing these AI workshops with our community. As AI reshapes the world our students are growing into, opportunities like this help kaiako explore practical and ethical ways to respond. The following pānui has been reposted, with Benny's permission. |
I'm Benny — I'm a science teacher and AI co-lead (currently at Rototuna Senior High) and over the past couple of years I've gone deep into AI in education — running workshops, training teachers in AI Education across 18 countries. I am leading a AI in Assessment project wit the AI forum NZ
I keep hearing the same thing from teachers: "I know AI is coming/here, but I don't know where to start — and I'm buried under paperwork and don't have time to figure it."
So I've put together 3 hands-on workshops during the April holidays — one each in Wellington, Dunedin, and Christchurch.
I will pair with a different expert in each session, to bring you slightly different angle of AI in education.
You will have a chance to help co-design the topics in the registration.
Wellington — Monday 13 April, 1-4pm
📍 St Patrick's College
📣 Danny Bedingfield (Cyclone, Microsoft & Google Certified Trainer)
📝 AI tools and use cases in the science classroom (to be finalised)

Dunedin — Monday 14 April, 1-4pm
📍 Logan Park High School
📣 Dr Simon McCallum (Victoria University of Wellington)
📝 How AI can assist group collaboration in the science classroom
👉🏼 Register: https://luma.com/vuy7xhdm
Christchurch — Thursday 16 April, 1-4pm
📍 Venue TBC
📣 Emma Humphrey (AI Safety Australia & NZ)
📝 AI safety, ethics in youths and effective AI use cases in the science classroom
👉🏼 Register: https://luma.com/8kskapc0
You are not going to sit and listen. The sessions are designed to be interactive and empowering. You'll spend most of the afternoon actually working with AI tools across science contexts. You'll walk away with practical approaches and a different mindset.
Whether you're just curious or already experimenting — all levels welcome. Posters attached with QR codes for each event.
Supported by NZIC, NZASE, and NZIP.
Places are limited so grab a spot early.
