Communities across the Bay of Plenty are already doing great mahi to prepare for a changing climate. To support these grassroots efforts, Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council has established a dedicated initiative to fund community-led planning.
Essential Guide to Community-Led Adaptation Funding Bay of Plenty Regional Council
Funding Amount: Up to $20,000 per project is available each financial year to support adaptation planning activities.
Who Can Apply: Place-based community organisations, iwi, hapū, and marae within the Bay of Plenty region.
Application Windows: Applications are open and can be submitted at any time.
Eligible Activities: Funding can be used for running workshops or hui, securing technical advice to understand hazards, mapping, community engagement and planning.
Council Support: Successful applicants receive ongoing support from council staff alongside access to trusted technical partners where needed.
Applications for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council Community-Led Adaptation Funding is open year-round.
Funding Exclusions
This grant is exclusively for planning and strategy, not for implementation. The funds cannot be applied toward:
Physical construction or infrastructure projects.
Capital purchases for ongoing, everyday operations.
Activities unrelated to climate adaptation planning.
Retrospective costs (expenses incurred prior to formal approval).
