This year we were incredibly fortunate to have Earth and Space Science Educators of NZ host their first national-level conference here in Te Moana a Toi alongside the ten year anniversary gathering of Astrobiology NZ.

The ESSENZ & Astrobiology Conference 2025 was special event in September where kaiako connected and met with an extraordinary group of guests, including representatives from Astrobiology NZ, the Blue Marble Institute and NASA over two days, as well as local tertiary and industry partners for a special STEM Day.

Being able to attend and to film the experience was a privilege for Bay Science. There were rich kōrero, early-Earth chemistry discussions, planetary habitability sessions, climate and inquiry conversations, and exploration into the future of Earth and Space Science education in Aotearoa.

For our readers who want to stay connected with science education in Te Moana a Toi and beyond, Bay Science will continue sharing events, news, and updates as our community continues to grow.

Ngā mihi nui ki a Jim Critchley and Justin Zani from ESSENZ for their tautoko and their permission to share this footage.
