Kai Rotorua have created a space for the hapori to come together in a meaningful way: rolling up sleeves, getting hands-on with planting, and exploring the ideas behind food forests — how they nourish soil, kai, and people. Throughout the afternoon, attendees can expect kōrero about kūmara, its whakapapa, and the stories that connect people to this taonga crop, all within a relaxed kaupapa open to anyone curious about māra kai, keen to deepen their understanding, or simply wanting to connect with others.

Kai Rotorua were recently named finalists in the Not for Profit category at the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards. A great acknowledgement of the mahi and aroha that goes into their kaupapa.

Rangatahi have recently been active in their māra too. Students from Rotorua Boys’ High School and John Paul College helped prepare the whenua, identify plants, sow seeds, and support kūmara planting. A real example of hapori and māra mahi coming together.
