The SCANZ Conference 2026 will take place in Ōtautahi Christchurch from 24–26 June 2026, bringing together science communication professionals, researchers, students, journalists, creatives, and others committed to strengthening connections between science and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Conference theme: Regeneration
The 2026 theme, Regeneration: building a science-informed future, centres on how science communication can respond to, and grow through, periods of change. The conference will explore shifts across the science sector, emerging technologies, climate and societal challenges, and evolving ways communities engage with science.
Ōtautahi Christchurch provides a powerful backdrop for these conversations. With its ongoing story of rebuilding, adaptation, and renewal, the city reflects many of the ideas at the heart of regeneration and future-focused science communication in Aotearoa.
