A new volunteer group is launching in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, offering people the chance to get involved in practical conservation work.

HALO Whakatāne Wicked Weeders is a coordinated volunteer team supporting HALO’s land-care projects by helping manage invasive weeds and prepare sites for native planting. The group will work across several restoration locations around Whakatāne, including the Whitehorse Drive planting site.

No prior experience is required, and tools are provided. Volunteers will receive training in plant identification, weed control techniques, and seedling protection while contributing to the restoration of native habitats.

Working bees will take place fortnightly on Tuesdays from 9:30am–11:30am, starting in March 2026.

This initiative offers a practical way for the community to support biodiversity restoration and create space for native plants to thrive.
