Empty playground rings symbolising the evolving nature of learning — an image representing how education systems must adapt and redefine what counts as learning in the age of AI.

As artificial intelligence becomes an everyday classroom companion, a vital question emerges: What truly counts as learning in the age of AI?

The New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) is inviting educators, leaders, and researchers to explore that question in their upcoming webinar, What Counts as Learning in the Age of AI?, on 3 November 2025 (3:30–4:30 pm NZT).

The session brings together international researchers and Aotearoa-based leaders to unpack essential ethical, practical, and pedagogical questions shaping the future of learning.

The conversation will centre on five key principles that anchor AI integration in education: accuracy, accessibility, agency, authenticity, and assessment.

These dimensions form the backbone of ethical AI use; guiding teachers in navigating what student work means when digital assistants, adaptive feedback tools, and generative models are in play.

Participants will also hear stories drawn from real classrooms; teachers testing, questioning, and reshaping their practices as AI becomes part of everyday teaching and learning.
