1. Cluster #1 2025 - External Moderation of Level 1 Internal Assessment
Wednesday 26th of March / 3:30PM - 5:00PM / Pāpāmoa College
In this hui we will discuss external moderator comments and student work to build consistency and alignment with NZQA’s expectations.
However, to ensure that there is also a productive conversation about the appropriateness and fairness of accessing kura-owned materials, we ask that you also prioritise the attendance of your Head of Department or leader of NCEA Level 1 Science.
Please register by emailing info@bayscience.nz or CLICKING HERE.
2. Future PLD for primary, intermediate and NCEA Level 2 and Level 3
In 2025 we will extend our networking and learning opportunities to include NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 specialist material, as well as our colleagues who work with primary and intermediate students. If you are comfortable facilitating such PLD or would like to run a workshop, please reach out info@bayscience.nz
3. Introducing Bay Science
Over the past two years, teacher volunteers such as yourself have been working together to create networking and professional learning opportunities. These efforts have inspired me to create Bay Science, bayscience.nz
The Bay Science website will act as a platform for you to:
Find science-related events or create events and add these to the calendar,
Find local groups for you or your students to volunteer with,
Share success stories in the ‘spotlight’ section (e.g. scholarship wins, olympiad achievements, teacher inquiry presentations, stories of learning taking place in context),
Keep an eye on your spam folder as future bulletins and correspondence will come through via info@bayscience.nz
3. Curriculum Matters
A general reminder that you can find all curriculum newsletters and bulletins here: https://www.education.govt.nz/bulletinsScience Learning Hub, in partnership with NZASE, are also offering a free 4-week online professional learning course “Puna Aronui - inclusive science education”. You can sign up and find out more here: https://www.sciencelearn.org.nz/events/2940-puna-aronui-inclusive-science-education - you may recall references to inclusive science education when a draft of this position paper was shared last year.
